PZLAST: a System for Homology Search of Enormous Metagenomic Data, ZettaScaler-3.0 Version Service is Now Available

PZLAST, a system enabling homology searches of vast amounts of metagenomic data, has been suspended since the end of November last year due to the suspension of operation of the ultra-compact liquid immersion cooling supercomputer Satsuki installed at the RIKEN Ebisuzaki Computational Astrophysics Laboratory.
Now we are honored to announce that the PZLAST service has reopened on the ZettaScaler-3.0 Air Cooling Node unit (ZS3.0-AC-UNIT) installed at the National Institute of Genetics, Research Organization of Information and Systems.

PZLAST was developed by a joint research group of the National Institute of Genetics, RIKEN, and PEZY Computing K.K., and has been provided as a web service on the ZettaScaler-2.0 immersion supercomputer since July 2021. [1].

 

Due to programming model compatibility between PEZY-SC3 in ZettaScaler-3.0 and PEZY-SC2 in ZettaScaler-2.0, programs port with minimal changes. To leverage the ZettaScaler-3.0's specific architecture, we further optimized the programs for increased execution speed [2].

We are pleased to announce the resumption of PZLAST service on the newly installed ZS3.0-AC-UNIT at the National Institute of Genetics, leveraging its enhanced processing power and storage capacity.

In anticipation of the ever-growing volume of metagenomic data, we aim to contribute to this field by providing more computational resources and developing improved algorithms and implementations to accelerate discoveries in metagenomics research.
